Palletized Freight Ā· One Pallet to a Full Trailer

Pallet Freight Shipping Across Canada and the U.S.

Ship a single pallet or fill a trailer with twenty-six. Your pallet count decides whether it moves LTL, partial or full truckload, and we price all three so you’re not paying for a whole trailer when you’re shipping six skids. For just a pallet or two, professional sprinter van freight shipping can sometimes work out even simpler.

Counting Skids

Your Pallet Count Decides Your Mode

Before anything else gets quoted, the number of pallets you’re shipping determines which service your freight belongs to, and getting that wrong is the most expensive mistake in palletized shipping. A standard 53-foot dry van holds twenty-six standard pallets in a single layer, or up to fifty-two if your freight is stackable. Somewhere below that, sharing a trailer stops making sense. As a rough guide, one to six pallets usually rates best as LTL, seven to twelve often lands in partial truckload territory, and beyond that a full truckload is typically cheaper per pallet than paying LTL rates on every skid, and if you already have a loaded trailer, that same volume can also move as our power only freight instead. The exact tipping point shifts with weight, density and lane, which is why the same shipment can be quoted three ways and come back with three very different numbers.

How To Build A Pallet That Survives The Trip

Most pallet damage and most surprise charges trace back to how the pallet was built before pickup, not to what happened on the road. Freight should stay inside the pallet’s footprint, since anything hanging over the edge loses the protection of the deck and gets crushed against the next skid. Heavier cartons belong on the bottom, lighter ones stacked above, with the load squared rather than pyramided. Stretch wrap should anchor the freight to the pallet itself, not just wrap the boxes to each other. Measure the pallet at its tallest and widest point after wrapping, weigh it loaded, and put those numbers on the bill of lading. Carriers re-measure and re-weigh at the terminal, and the invoice reflects what they find, not what was estimated.

Who Ships By The Pallet

Businesses shipping more than a parcel and less than a trailer.

Retail Suppliers

Equipment & Parts Suppliers

A supplier sending four pallets to a retailer’s distribution center and a brand moving inventory between warehouses have the same practical problem: too much freight for parcel shipping, not enough to justify booking a trailer. Palletized freight is built for exactly that middle ground, and when timing matters more than cost, air freight services can move the same pallets faster.

Avoidable Problems

Where Pallet Shipments Usually Go Wrong

Reclassification after pickup

A freight class guessed at, or carried over from before the 2025 classification changes, gets corrected at the terminal and re-rated. We verify the class before booking.

Reweigh and re-measure charges

Estimated dimensions rarely match what the carrier’s scale says. We use your actual loaded measurements on the bill of lading.

Overhang damage

Freight extending past the pallet edge gets crushed. We flag it during quoting rather than at the claims stage.

Accessorials discovered at delivery

No dock, no forklift, residential address. We confirm what the delivery site needs before the truck is dispatched.

Real-time tracking

Paying LTL rates on ten skids when a partial truckload costs less. We quote across modes so you can see the difference.

Poor wrapping

Loads that shift in transit. We’ll tell you how the pallet should be built before it’s picked up.

Pricing

What Shapes Your Pallet Shipping Rate

Pallet freight is priced on how much room it takes and how dense it is, plus whatever the delivery site requires, and if the lane crosses an ocean rather than a border, international air freight becomes the better fit for those same pallets.

What Clients Say About Shipping Pallets With Enorth

“We kept getting reclassification bills weeks after delivery, always for more than the original quote. ENorth checks our freight class before the shipment books, and those corrections have basically stopped.”Ā

Shipping Manager

Print & Packaging, Toronto

“We’d been shipping nine pallets of LTL every month without questioning it. They quoted it as a partial truckload instead and it came in cheaper with fewer stops along the way. Nobody had ever suggested that before.”

Pallet Questions, Answered

Sizing, Counting And Classifying

The North American standard is 48 inches by 40 inches. Other sizes ship fine, but non-standard footprints can affect how efficiently a trailer loads and how the shipment rates.

Twenty-six standard pallets in a single layer, or up to fifty-two if the freight can be double-stacked safely.
Usually around six to twelve, depending on weight and lane. Past that, partial or full truckload is often cheaper per pallet. We quote both so the comparison is visible.
Yes. A single pallet moves as an LTL shipment.
Most carriers work comfortably up to around 8 feet including the pallet itself. Taller loads can ship but may lose the ability to be stacked, which affects pricing.

A standardized rating that determines LTL pricing, running from class 50 to class 500. Since July 2025, classification is primarily density-based, meaning weight relative to the space your freight occupies drives the class.

The classification system was restructured in 2025, moving from commodity-based to density-based classification and expanding the density scale. A class that was correct before then may not be current, which is a common cause of reclassification charges.
