Freight Consolidation - Pay Truckload Rates On Less Than A Truckload

Your smaller shipments combined with others heading the same way, moved as one full truck, then separated at the other end. You get close to truckload pricing without needing to fill a trailer yourself, coordinated as part of our freight management services.

The Basics, Simply

How Freight Consolidation Works

Consolidation means combining several smaller shipments into one full truckload. Your pallets are collected and brought to a consolidation point, coordinated through the same freight dispatching that schedules every pickup, where they are loaded onto a trailer alongside other freight travelling the same route. That full trailer then makes one direct journey. At the destination, the load is separated again and each shipment goes out for its final delivery. The reason this saves money is straightforward. Carriers charge much less per pallet for a full truck than for a partial one, so combining shipments lets several businesses share a truckload rate that none of them could reach alone.

Shipping LTL On Its Own

Shipping As Consolidated Freight

The Trade-Off, Honestly

What You Save, And What It Costs You In Time

LTL pricing is built around freight class, weight and the handling your pallets need along the way, and it climbs quickly once you are shipping more than a few skids. Consolidation moves you onto truckload pricing, where you pay for the trailer and the trip instead, run through the same professional managed logistics approach we apply across every lane, and the saving is largest when your freight slots into a lane we already run each week. The cost of that saving is time. Consolidated freight leaves on a schedule rather than on demand, so your shipment waits for the next departure on its lane, usually adding a few days. The journey itself is often quicker once the truck leaves, because it travels direct rather than stopping at terminals, but the wait before departure is real. Tell us your deadline first and we will quote both ways, because saving money on freight that arrives late helps nobody.

Best Fit

Freight Worth Consolidating

Consolidation pays off fastest for shipments that look like these.

The third and fourth points on that list matter more than most shippers expect. An LTL pallet does not travel straight to its destination. It is unloaded and reloaded at each terminal along the route, sometimes several times, and every one of those handovers is a chance for a forklift to catch a corner or for a pallet to be stacked under something heavier. Consolidated freight is loaded once and unloaded once. If you have had damage claims before, that reduction in handling is often the stronger reason to consolidate, backed by our professional freight insurance coverage and, where damaged goods do need to come back, our reliable reverse logistics service, with the lower rate as a bonus.

Being Straight With You

When Consolidation Is Not The Right Choice

Your Delivery Date Cannot Move

If a shipment has a fixed deadline and little slack, standard LTL or a dedicated truck is the safer answer.

You Ship Rarely, On Unusual Lanes

Consolidation works best on routes that already run regularly. A one-off shipment on an uncommon lane may save little.

Your Freight Already Fills A Trailer

If you are shipping full truckloads, you are paying truckload rates already and consolidation adds nothing.

The Goods Need Temperature Control

Consolidated dry freight and temperature-controlled goods do not travel together.

Your Shipment Is Smaller Than A Pallet

Below pallet size, a courier or parcel service is usually cheaper and faster.

The Freight Needs Permits Or Special Equipment

Oversized, hazardous or specialised loads travel on their own equipment rather than in a shared trailer.

Client Results

Clients Who Moved From LTL To Consolidated Freight

“We ship six or seven pallets most weeks and were paying LTL rates on every one. Moving to a weekly consolidated run cut the cost noticeably. It arrives two days later than it used to, which we planned around once and have not thought about since.”

Logistics Coordinator

Furniture Importer, Mississauga

“Damage was our real problem, not price. Our product was getting handled at four terminals on every trip and we were writing off pallets most months. Loading once and unloading once has almost ended the claims.”Ā

FAQs

Questions About Consolidating Your Freight

Combining several smaller shipments into one full truckload so they share a truckload rate, then separating them again at the destination for final delivery.

It depends on your pallet count, your lane and how often that lane runs. Rather than quote a percentage, we will price your actual freight both ways so you can compare real numbers.

Usually a few days, because your shipment waits for the scheduled departure. The journey itself is often quicker once the truck leaves, since it travels direct rather than through terminals.

On shared truckload services, yes. Your pallets stay together and are tracked separately, but they share a trailer with freight going the same way.

Consolidated freight is handled less than LTL, not more, because it is loaded once and unloaded once instead of being transferred at every terminal.

Separating the combined load back into individual shipments at the destination so each one can go out for final delivery.

Yes. Multi-vendor consolidation collects from different suppliers and delivers to you or your customer as one shipment, which also means fewer receiving appointments to book.

Yes, with customs paperwork handled as part of the booking.

Tell us the deadline and we will quote a service that meets it, even if that means recommending LTL or a dedicated truck instead of consolidation.
