Chemical Logistics With The Documents, Packaging And Training It Requires

Drums, pails and totes moved under TDG rules by trained handlers and certified carriers. Stored apart by hazard, loaded by compatibility and protected from freezing, the same regulated handling standard we apply across our professional construction logistics work.

The Rules

Chemical Freight Is Regulated From The Loading Dock Onward

A pallet of solvent and a pallet of boxed goods take up the same space on a trailer, and almost nothing else about them is the same, unlike the freight we move for our food and beverage logistics clients. Chemicals classed as dangerous goods fall under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations in Canada and hazmat rules in the United States. Those rules decide the container the product travels in, the words and numbers printed on the shipping document, the safety marks on the packages and on the vehicle, who is allowed to handle the load, and what may travel beside it. None of that is optional, and very little of it can be fixed once a truck is moving. A load held at a scale or a border crossing over a missing UN number is not a delay anyone can talk their way out of.

Chemical Logistics

Where It Starts

Send Us The Safety Data Sheet First

Almost every question we need to answer about a chemical shipment is already written on its Safety Data Sheet. The sheet tells us whether the product is regulated for transport, which class and packing group it falls under, its proper shipping name and UN number, what it must not be stored or loaded beside, whether it needs protection from heat or cold, and what has to happen if it spills, the same level of documentation rigor we apply across our reliable healthcare logistics work. With that document in hand we can quote accurately, choose the right carrier and prepare correct paperwork the first time. Without it we are guessing, and a guess about a chemical classification is the kind of guess that gets a load turned away at a customer’s gate. If you have a product range rather than a single item, send the sheets for all of it. Not everything in a chemical catalogue is actually regulated, and knowing which items are not can make a shipment simpler and cheaper than you expected.

Our Services

Our Chemical Logistics Services

Moving regulated freight, and storing it under the conditions the product and the fire code both require.

Dangerous Goods Transport

Getting It There Legally

Regulated and non-regulated chemical freight moved by certified carriers, with documents prepared before the load is built.

Chemical Storage & Handling

Where It Waits

Storage that keeps incompatible products apart and keeps liquids off the floor and out of the ground.

What We Handle

Chemical Classes And Containers We Move

Regulated and unregulated products, from a single pail to a full trailer of totes.

Two things are worth saying plainly. We do not move explosives (Class 1) or radioactive material (Class 7), and you will hear that on the first call rather than after a purchase order has gone out, the same upfront approach we take with time-sensitive loads for our professional event and trade show logistics clients. Some higher hazard products also need an approved Emergency Response Assistance Plan in Canada before they can be offered for transport at all, and that plan is the shipper’s responsibility rather than the carrier’s, a distinction that also comes up with cleaning and amenity products moved for our hospitality logistics clients. If you are not sure whether your product needs one, send the Safety Data Sheet and we will go through it with you.

What It Requires

What Moving Chemicals Safely Depends On

Correct Classification

The right proper shipping name, UN number, class and packing group on the document before the load is built.

Trained Handlers And Drivers

Everyone who packs, marks, loads or drives regulated freight holds current TDG training.

Certified Packaging

Drums, pails and totes carrying UN packaging marks, closed properly and checked for damage.

Compatibility On The Trailer

Acids away from bases, oxidizers away from flammables. Segregation is checked when the load is planned.

Freeze Protection In Winter

Heated trailers and protected storage are arranged from November through March.

Emergency Information To Hand

A 24 hour contact number printed on the shipping document, plus spill instructions and a kit the driver can actually reach.

Client Feedback

Chemical Shippers On How Their Loads Move Now

“We had two loads turned away in one quarter over paperwork, both our own fault. ENorth now builds the shipping documents from our Safety Data Sheets before anything is picked, and we have not had a rejection since.”

Compliance & Quality Manager

Industrial Coatings Manufacturer, Oakville

“Winter was the problem nobody had solved for us. We used to write off freight every February. Heated trailers from November onward ended that, and the cost of them is far less than what we were losing.”

Common Questions

Questions Chemical Shippers Ask

Any product that meets the criteria in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, which covers most solvents, acids, bases, oxidizers, compressed gases and many paints and aerosols. The transport section of your Safety Data Sheet says so directly.

Classes 2, 3, 5, 6.1, 8 and 9, along with plenty of chemicals that are not regulated at all. We do not carry explosives (Class 1) or radioactive material (Class 7).

Classification is the shipper's legal responsibility, but you are not doing it from scratch. It comes off the Safety Data Sheet, and we will work through the sheet with you and prepare the shipping document from it.

Yes, and so is everyone in the warehouse who handles regulated freight. Certificates are kept current and are available if a customer or an inspector asks.

Often yes, as long as compatibility and segregation rules allow it. Some combinations are not permitted at all, and some loads are better run dedicated. That is decided when the load is planned.

Anything water-based needs protection below freezing. Heated trailers and heated storage are available, and we flag products that need it rather than waiting to be asked.

Yes, with storage separated by hazard class, contained floor areas and spill kits on site. Product types and quantities are checked against fire code limits before anything is booked in.

Yes. Hazmat documents for the United States are prepared before the load moves, because a paperwork problem at the border on regulated freight takes much longer to resolve than on general cargo.

The driver carries the shipping document, emergency information and a spill kit, and a 24 hour number is printed on the paperwork. Containment comes first, then notification, then cleanup by people qualified to do it.

Yes. Empties are still treated as regulated freight until they have been properly cleaned, so they are documented and moved the same way the full ones were.Ā
