The Difference
Warehousing is about keeping goods safely in one place. Distribution is about getting those goods out to lots of different places, on time, in the right quantities. The two are often sold together, but they solve different problems, the same distinction we work through as part of our professional ecommerce logistics services. A business with a storage problem needs shelves. A business with a distribution problem needs a plan: where stock should sit so it is close to buyers, how deliveries get grouped so trucks are not running half empty, and what each receiving customer expects when the shipment lands. Distribution is the part that decides whether your customers get their orders when they were promised.
Avoiding Penalty Charges
Large retailers do not simply accept deliveries. They publish a routing guide, which is a set of rules covering how your shipment must arrive: where the label goes, how tall a pallet can be, how much notice they need, and which delivery slot you booked, all built into the shipment through our professional pick and pack process. Break any of those rules and the retailer charges a penalty, usually deducted straight from what they owe you. Suppliers often lose thousands a year this way without ever tracing where it went. We read the routing guide for each of your customers as part of our fulfillment logistics operation and build the shipment to match it, so the delivery gets accepted the first time and the deductions stop appearing on your statements.

Trade Counters
A grocery chain’s distribution centre and an independent trade counter both take deliveries, but almost nothing else about them matches, not unlike the range of retail and wholesale orders handled through our ecommerce fulfillment services. One needs a booked slot, a specific label and advance notice. The other needs someone to phone ahead. Both get handled properly.
Our Standard
Holding goods closer to where they sell shortens every final delivery and cuts the freight bill.
Each receiving site’s requirements are built into the shipment before it leaves.
Appointments arranged in advance, because turning up without one usually means being turned away.
Signed delivery records for every drop, so a disputed shipment is settled in minutes.
The same person handles every route rather than a different contact per region.
Pricing
Distribution is priced around how many places you deliver to and how much each one takes.

Delivered And Accepted
“We were being charged penalties by two of our biggest retail accounts and could never work out exactly what we were doing wrong. ENorth went through both routing guides with us and rebuilt how we label and book deliveries. Those deductions have basically stopped.”

“Everything used to ship from our one site, which meant our western customers waited days longer and paid more for the privilege. Splitting stock across two locations shortened those deliveries and our freight bill dropped noticeably.”

Distribution Questions
Warehousing is storing goods in one place. Distribution is moving them out to many places on a schedule. Most businesses need both, but they are priced and managed separately.
Not always. It usually makes sense once your customers are spread far enough apart that shipping everything from one site is costing you noticeably in freight and delivery time.
Goods arrive at a site and go straight back out on another vehicle without being stored. It suits fast-moving stock that already has a destination when it arrives.
Yes. Deliveries to your stores, your dealers, your wholesalers or your end business customers are all handled the same way.
A set of delivery rules published by a receiving customer, usually a large retailer. It covers labelling, packing, notice periods and delivery slots. Following it is what stops penalty charges.
We record the reason, get the shipment back into the network and fix whatever caused the refusal, whether that was a missed slot, a labelling issue or a paperwork gap.
Yes, with customs paperwork prepared as part of the booking.
