Fulfillment Operations Ā· Canada & USA
Storing your stock, picking and packing your orders through our pick and pack services, and getting them out the door through our last-mile delivery network. The question most businesses are really asking is whether to keep doing it themselves or hand it over. Here is an honest look at both, and what we do if you choose the second.

The Real Question
The difference between the two comes down to how your costs behave. Running fulfillment yourself means fixed costs: the lease, the racking, the equipment and the staff all cost the same in a quiet month as a busy one, the same fixed-cost trap that shapes decisions across our warehouse logistics clients. Handing it to a partner turns most of that into a variable cost, where you pay for the orders and space you actually use. Neither is automatically better. If your volume is steady and modest, and you have space you are already paying for, in-house is often cheaper and gives you more direct control. If your volume swings through the year, is growing quickly, or has outgrown your space, fixed costs start working against you.
Doing The Sums Properly
When businesses compare the two options, they usually weigh their rent against a quoted price per order and stop there. That comparison misses most of the real cost of doing it yourself. Wages are only part of the staffing bill once you add recruitment, training, holiday cover and the hours lost when someone is off sick. Racking, packing benches, scanners and a forklift are capital spent before a single order ships. Software to track stock is an ongoing subscription, the same overhead our reliable warehousing and inventory management service absorbs into one predictable cost. Insurance rises with what you hold. And the largest cost rarely appears anywhere: the hours you and your team spend packing boxes instead of selling, buying or building the business. Count all of it, then compare.

Seasonal Pop-Up Operations
The point where fulfillment stops working is usually obvious in hindsight. Stock spills into space it should not be in, orders go out later than promised, and someone senior spends their evenings packing, a pattern we see just as often in specialized supply chains like our aerospace logistics clients. If that sounds familiar, the sums are probably already pointing one way.
An Honest Look
Racking, scanners, benches and handling equipment are no longer yours to buy, maintain or replace.
Busy months are absorbed by an operation already built for them, rather than by temporary staff you train each year.

Worth The Switch

“We did not want to give up our own warehouse, so we kept it and moved peak overflow across instead. That was the right call for us. We hold our normal volume ourselves and stop drowning every fourth quarter.”Ā
