Standard Equipment Ā· Canada & USA

General Freight Trucking Across Canada and the U.S.

Packaged and palletized freight moving on standard dry vans. No permits, no temperature control, no special handling, just the everyday freight that makes up most of what ships by truck, moved LTL, partial or full truckload depending on how much you have. Most of it falls under pallet freight shipping solutions, the baseline freight type most businesses ship the most of.

Which One Is Yours

General Freight Or Specialized Freight?

The trucking industry splits freight into two broad categories, and knowing which one you’re in decides almost everything about how your shipment gets quoted and moved. General freight travels on standardized equipment, usually a dry van, the same equipment behind professional ground freight trucking, and consists of packaged, boxed, crated or palletized goods that need no special treatment in transit. Specialized freight is everything else: oversized loads that need permits and escorts, temperature-controlled goods, hazardous materials, bulk liquids, vehicles, and anything requiring equipment built for one purpose. The distinction matters because general freight has the deepest carrier pool in the industry, which keeps rates competitive and capacity available. Specialized freight has a much narrower pool, and the pricing reflects that.

The Difference Is Management

Standard Freight, Handled Like It Isn't

Because general freight moves on common equipment, it’s the easiest freight in the industry to treat as interchangeable, and that’s exactly where shippers get burned. A carrier that quotes cheap and shows up late still costs you a missed dock appointment. A load handed to whoever answered the phone first can arrive with crushed corners nobody claims responsibility for. Our approach runs the other direction: carriers are screened on safety records and claims history before they’re matched to a load, every shipment is tracked from pickup to delivery, and one specialist stays on your account rather than passing you between departments. The freight might be ordinary. How it gets managed shouldn’t be.

Our services

Our General Freight Trucking Services

Split by how much of the trailer your freight actually needs.

Shared Trailer

LTL & regional distribution

Your freight shares trailer space with other shipments as part of our reliable LTL freight services, priced on class and weight rather than the whole trailer.

Your Own Trailer

Partial & full truckload

Your freight takes the trailer, or most of it, moving with fewer stops and less handling along the way, and if you already have your own trailer, it can also be arranged as power only freight with just the tractor and driver.

Industries

Who Ships General Freight

If your product ships in a box or on a pallet, this is your category.

Retail & Consumer Goods

Manufacturing

Wholesale Distribution

Building Materials

Ecommerce Inventory Transfers

Packaged Food & Beverage

Industrial Supply

Paper & Packaging

A furniture wholesaler restocking a showroom and a manufacturer moving components between plants both ship general freight, even though the products have nothing in common. What they share is packaging that travels safely in a standard trailer without anything extra bolted on, and when either one needs a smaller load moved on short notice, our professional hot shot freight covers that too.

The Standard We Hold

What Ordinary Freight Should Still Get

Carrier vetting on every load

Safety records, insurance and claims history checked before a carrier touches your freight, not after something goes wrong.

Tracking as standard, not an upgrade

Live shipment visibility included on every load, whether it’s one pallet or a full trailer.

Capacity when the market tightens

A broad carrier network means your freight still moves when spot capacity gets scarce.

Rates you can actually compare

Quotes that show what’s included, so an accessorial doesn’t appear on the invoice unannounced.

Damage-free handling

Fewer touches in transit, and carriers held to a claims standard rather than a shrug.

One specialist, not a queue

The same person on your account from quote through delivery.

Freight That Just Works

What Clients Say About Shipping General Freight With Enorth

“Most of what we ship is boring, and that’s the point. We need it to show up when it’s supposed to, week after week, without anyone having to chase it. ENorth handles our regular lanes and we mostly don’t think about freight anymore.”

Distribution Manager

Wholesale Distribution, Mississauga

“We were getting quoted one number and invoiced another, usually over accessorials nobody mentioned upfront. The quotes we get now match the invoice, which sounds like a low bar until you’ve dealt with the alternative.”

Sorting It Out

General Freight Trucking, Answered

General freight moves on standard equipment and needs no special handling. Specialized freight requires purpose-built equipment, permits, or controlled conditions. If your shipment fits in a dry van as-is, it's general freight.

These describe different things, not competing options. General freight trucking is the type of freight being moved. Brokerage is how capacity gets sourced to move it. Most general freight gets booked through a broker.

LTL means your freight shares a trailer and is priced by class and weight. Partial means you take a large share of the trailer without filling it. Full truckload means the whole trailer is yours. The tipping point is usually around six to twelve pallets.

No. General freight service starts at a single pallet through LTL and scales to a full trailer.

Yes, with customs documentation handled as part of the booking on Canada to USA lanes.

Tell us during quoting. Mixed shipments happen, and it's better to price the handling upfront than to have a carrier refuse the load at pickup or bill for it afterward.
